NEW YORK — Schlarman Academy alum Anaya Peoples started her career at Notre Dame on Tuesday with 11 points as the Irish beat Fordham 60-55.

Fellow freshman Sam Brunelle and Katlyn Gilbert each had 14 points for No. 16 Notre Dame, who picked up its 1,000th win as a program, while Destinee Walker added 10 points.

The Irish was up by 15 points, but saw their lead dwindle to 57-55 before holding on for the win.

Notre Dame will have its first home game Friday against Loyola-Maryland.

Illinois 96, Chicago State 66

CHAMPAIGN — Petra Holesinska had a career-high 29 points as the Illini women started the season in a big way against the Cougars.

Freshman Kennedi Myles had 17 points and 15 rebounds in her debut, while Cierra Rice and Ali Andrews each had 10 points

The Illini will host Holy Cross on Saturday.

Seeger 40, Rossville 21

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Kiley White had 19 points as the Patriots defeated Rossville in their season opener.

Riley Shrader had seven points for Seeger, while Emily Shrader had five points.
