ROME — The University of Illinois men's basketball team finished up their trip to Italy on Saturday.
But unlike the first three games, the Illini lost their toughest test of the tour, 82-72, to the Netherlands National B Team.
After a 20-20 tie in the first quarter, the Netherlands took a 44-35 halftime lead and was up by as much as 20 in the fourth quarter before the Illini made a late comeback.
Illinois got the game to within 77-70, but a miscommunication on a pass gave the Netherlands a chance to build on the lead and finish the game.
Ayo Dosunmu had 27 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Illini, while Tevian Jones and Giorgi Bezhanishvili each had 10 points and Trent Frazier and Alan Griffin each added eight points.
Assistant Orlando Antigua served as head coach for the game as Brad Underwood wrapped up his goal of giving each member of the staff the opportunity to lead the team for a game during the tour.
The Illini will spend the next three days sightseeing around Rome — highlighted by tours of the Colosseum and Vatican City — before flying back to the United States on Wednesday.
