MONTEZUMA, Ind. — A strong first two innings were all the North Vermillion softball team needed on Tuesday to beat Covington 9-1 in an IHSAA Class 1A sectional semifinal at Riverton Parke High School.
Whiskey Keller had three hits and three RBIs for the Falcons, while Emily Fitzwater and Cierra Cheuvront each had two hits and one RBI, while Jayde Norris and Keely Bush each had one RBI. Fitzwater gave up only four hits and had nine strikeouts.
Paige Messmore scored the only run for Covington, while Lidia Hanson had two hits.
The Falcons will return to Riverton Parke on Thursday for the title game against Parke Heritage, who beat Attica 9-0 in the other semifinal.
Delphi 6, Fountain Central 2
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Mustangs took the lead in a IHSAA Class 2A sectional, but could not hold on to that lead as Delphi advanced.
Chloe Golia had two hits and a RBI for Fountain CEntral, while Audiaunna Eades had a RBI.

Terre Haute South 5, Covington 0
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — The Trojans' season ended in an IHSAA regional with their first loss of the season to the fifth-ranked team in the state to Terre Haute South.
Covington ends a strong season at 15-1, which included an undefeated regular season and Wabash River Conference team title and their first sectional crown.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — After advancing in last week's sectional at Oxford, Ind., the heat was turned up a bit for local competitors in a regional at Lafayette Jefferson High School.
No one locally would advance with North Vermillion's Hannah Ellis taking 14th in the discus (96 feet, 11 inches) and 16th in the shot put (29-7 1/2).
Covington's Sara Saliji had the highest individual finish with a 13th-place finish in the 800 (2 minutes, 27.26 seconds), while Seeger's Allison High was 15th (2:31.34).
Seeger's Jennifer Romero was 14th in the 3,200 (12:07.53), while teammate Libby Smith was 16th (12:37.26) and Izzi Puterbaugh was 14th in the 300 hurdles (54.11).
In relays, Covington was 16th (57.91) in the 400, while Fountain Central was 15th in the 1,600 (4:30.36) and Seeger was behind them in 16th (4:43.14). Seeger was 13th in the 3,200 (10:28.46) and Covington took 16th in the race (11:22.91).
