LAFAYETTE, Ind. — After battling back to take a 6-3 lead on Thursday, the Danville Dans could not hold on to that lead against the Lafayette Aviators.

The Dans allowed four runs in the sixth inning and could not recover as they lost to the Aviators 7-6 at Loeb Stadium.

Lafayette got things going early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Brent Todys and RBI double by Braedon Blackford.

In the fourth inning, an error by Lafayette catcher Matt Phipps brought in Aidan Malm for Danville's first run of the game and then Braden Powers drove in Ryan Archibald to get within 3-2.

In the fifth, a Lafayette wild pitch brought in Dans' Richard Sorrenti and Marcel Bachelier while Archibald drove in Max Jung-Goldberg with a single to give Danville a 5-3 lead. And sacrifice fly by Sorrenti brought in Walker McCleney for a 6-3 lead in the sixth inning.

But Lafayette would battle back in the bottom if the sixth. An RBI single by Andrew Eng, a bases-loaded walk that brought in Phipps and an error that brought in Eng and Zach Schwartzenberger, gave the Aviators all they needed.

Dawson Sweatt took the loss for Danville with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings, while Jesse Wainscott pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief with three strikeouts. Archibald had two hits.

It was the first game of the young season in which the Dans did not hit a home run.

The Dans will try to regroup today against the Aviators at Loeb Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Eastern time.
