Both Chrisman and Oakwood put on an offensive display on Tuesday, with the Cardinals picking up the 89-82 win in the Vermilion Valley Conference opener for both teams.

“There were a lot of points scored,” Oakwood coach Jesse Johnson said. “There were some real good moments for us.”

The Comets were led by Aaron Pratt’s game-high 32 points with five 3-pointers.

“Aaron just shot the lights out,” Johnson said. ‘They tried to put a man press on us, but we did well against it. … We did a good job on defense from the outside, but they started to beat us in the post.”

Taylor Ross led the Cardinals with 28 points and nine rebounds, Jordan Kindred had 19 points ad eight assists, Will Redman had 18 points and Chaise Barrett added 15 and six assists.

Justin Jones had 19 points and Bryce Leeman had 16 for the Comets.

Oakwood drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the Conference, while the Cardinals are 5-1 and 1-0.

Bismarck-Henning 48, Schlarman 34

DANVILLE — Brandon Roberts and Trey McCorkle combined for 29 of the Blue Devils’ points as they defeated the Hilltoppers.

“They were the most experience and I think they did a good job of showing that,” Schlarman coach Pat Kelley said. “We did improve a lot against them and we did a good job.”

Roberts had 17 points and McCorkle had 12 points for Bismarck-Henning, who outscored Schlarman 22-13 in the second half after taking a 26-21 halftime lead.

Brian Payton led the Hilltoppers with 10 points, Jared Lazzell had nine points and Branden Forbes added seven.

The Hilltoppers drop to 0-6 for the season and will face Armstrong-Potomac on Friday.

Westville 50, Hoopeston Area 45

WESTVILLE — Brandon Glascott had 17 points as the Tigers outscored the Cornjerkers 16-9 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Eli Williams had nine points for Westville and Ryan Lawlyes added eight points.

Anthony Hornbeck led Hoopeston Area with 16 points, Brock Baker added 12 points and Michael Silver added nine.

Milford 70, Armstrong-Potomac 55

MILFORD — Pat Laffoon had 25 points as the Bearcats defeated the Trojans.

Justin Garrelts had 15 points, Ryan Kunce had 12 points and Caleb Schroeder added 10.

Brent Markwelder led Armstrong-Potomac with 19 points, Matt Carter had 10 and Tyler Farmer added eight.

Milford improves to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will host Georgetown-Ridge Farm at Sheldon on Friday. The Trojans will play Schlarman on Friday.


Crawfordsville 61 Covington 37

COVINGTON, Ind. — A combination of injury and sickness were too much for the Trojans against Crawfordsville.

“Fara Abernathy did not play because she rolled her ankle on Thursday and we also had some players coming back from the flu,” Covington coach Troy Bever said. “So we were not at 100 percent.”

Sarah Romine led the Trojans with 11 points, Brittany Smith scored nine points and Whitney Allen added eight points.

The Trojans drop to 3-4 for the season and will play South Vermillion on Tuesday.

Clinton Prairie 40, Seeger 24

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Heather Stivers had seven points, but it was not enough as the Patriots failed to find much offense against Clinton Prairie.

Faith Foxworthy had six points and Justina Manning and Kayla Allison each had four points.


Hoopeston Area 46, Covington 24

HOOPESTON — T.J. Warner (145 pounds) and Wes Leemon (152) won matches by technical fall as the Cornjerkers cruised to victory.

Daniel Wagoner (160) had the only pin for Hoopeston Area with Zach Judy (119); Cody Leemon (125), Todd Crawford (135) Patrick Sheppard (140) and Tim Hicks (189) getting forfeit wins.

Josh Witsman (215) and Jordan Snoddy (285) each got pinfall wins for the Trojans.
