DANVILLE — A second person has been pronounced dead following a Wednesday night shooting.
A report of shots fired was called into Danville police around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in the area of East Main and North Griffin streets. Reports were received of two vehicles seen speeding from the area.
Soon after, police were notified by personnel at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center that two men had been dropped off at the hospital’s emergency room by people in vehicles, Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said in a release issued Thursday morning.
Upon arrival, police were told that one of the men was already deceased. The other was listed in critical condition at that time and taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Thomason confirmed just after 10 a.m. today that the second suspect died around 9 p.m. Wednesday night. Police were not releasing the name of either person.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup issued a release indicating the man, identified as Michael Trotter, 20, of Danville, was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
The Vermilion County Coroner's Office released the second victim’s name during the noon hour: 27-year-old Hank Hamilton. No specific town address was listed. He was pronounced dead at 5:49 p.m. Wednesday at Presence USMC.
Police are not releasing additional information regarding the shooting at this time.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
