The movie will be shown twice Friday night as part of First Friday downtown activities, and again Saturday afternoon as part of Soul Garden Recovery Center's Pumpkin Festival.

DANVILE – The First Friday theme for the Oct. 4 event is Trick or Treating in the Land of Oz.

Downtown Danville Inc. Board President Amy McKinley said they are really excited about the event.

“It is just one more way that this city is showing how dedicated they are to growing the downtown and creating fun activities for everyone to enjoy,” she said.

Children accompanied by parents are invited to Trick or Treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday downtown at participating merchants, such as Sweet Repeats, Green Island, Vintage Villains, Café 13, Crose Insurance, Downtown Danville Inc. and Senior Source Danville.

"The Wizard of Oz" movie will be shown at 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday the Fischer Theatre.

Characters from the Danville Light Opera production of "The Wizard of Oz" will be on hand for picture opportunities at Temple Plaza from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. DLO will collect donations to raise funds for its Fly the Monkeys program.

Those who make a purchase at a participating downtown merchant through Friday will receive a voucher to buy a movie ticket for 25 cents for one of the two showings of "The Wizard of Oz." Supply is limited. Tickets also will be on sale for $5 at the Fischer Theatre box office between 4-7 p.m. today and Friday.

The 25-cent ticket vouchers are available at: Vintage Villains, Chart Records, Café 13, Back Alley Creations, Sweet Repeats, Vermilion River Beer Co., Crose Insurance, Gold Rush Pawn, Diamond Pawn, Flea Picker's USA, Glory Daze, Merle Norman and Memories by Design.

It’s one voucher per purchase.

Once the voucher is received, it can be redeemed for the 25-cent ticket at the Fischer Theatre box office also between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. today or Friday. Redeeming earlier means the best chance of receiving the movie showing of your choice. Seats for each showing are limited.

No outside food, drinks or candy are allowed in the theater. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
