DANVILLE — A 27-year-old woman took her own life Tuesday night by jumping from Memorial Bridge.

Danville Police received reports of a woman on the South Gilbert Street bridge around 8:06 p.m., according to a press release issued Wednesday.

Callers said she was possibly going to jump.

“When officers arrived, they were unable to locate the woman on the bridge and began checking the water below,” said Commander Joshua Webb in the release.

Officers then located her lying in the water near the bridge. They pulled her from the water and assisted in bringing her up to the medical personnel for treatment. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.

The identity of the female is being withheld and is pending notifications of family before being released by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
