DANVILLE -- An Urbana man was arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Danville this week.
At around 8:42 p.m. Wednesday, Danville Police responded to the area of Main and Columbus streets for a report of shots fired from a vehicle. The victim stated a vehicle pulled up next to him and the front seat passenger fired several shots at him.
While enroute, officers learned that the victim was following the suspect vehicle and they were getting onto Interstate 74. The victim stayed on the phone and directed the officers to the suspect vehicle’s location. Once officers located the vehicle a traffic stop was conducted and three people were initially taken into custody.
After further investigation, officers located a handgun and suspected methamphetamine. After further follow-up investigation by Danville detectives, Phouthasone M. Champanine, 23, of Urbana, was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
On Thursday, Champanine was arraigned in Vermilion County Court and bond was set at $200,000, 10 percent. The other two individuals who were initially taken into custody were released after investigation revealed they were present with Champanine during the incident but were not active participants in his actions. No injuries were reported during this incident.
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
