DANVILLE — A car spotted leaving the scene after an armed robbery Monday turned out to the suspects in question.
Danville police responded to the Casey's General Store, 845 E. Voorhees, at 11:23 p.m. in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with an employee who stated the business had been robbed by two suspects — a black male and black female. The male was armed with a handgun, according to a press release issued by Comm. Joshua Webb of the Danville Police Department.
The employee said both subjects were wearing black, hooded sweatshirts and masks. The employee also said the male pointed the handgun at her while the female suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. Both then fled the scene and were last seen running westbound.
Other officers were checking the surrounding area and located a vehicle leaving the scene.
"Officers observed that the occupants of the vehicle matched the description of the robbery suspects," the release stated. "Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and completed further investigation of the incident and the subjects in the vehicle. That investigation revealed the subjects in the vehicle were the suspects from the armed robbery that had just occurred."
Officers found Courtland E. H. Rowell, 19, of Danville, and Elizabeth A. Roberson, 27, of Danville, to be in possession of an undisclosed amount of cash and other elements of the crime, including a stolen firearm. The were taken into custody and are currently held at the Danville Public Safety Building awaiting their court appearance on charges of armed robbery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.
"Danville Police are also looking into whether or not Rowell and Roberson may have also been responsible for the armed robbery to the Casey’s Gas Station in the 2100 block of E. Main St. on the previous night of (June 2)," Webb said. "That incident is still under investigation and neither Rowell nor Roberson have been charged with any crimes related to the previous armed robbery."
The investigation into this incident continues and no other information is being released at this time.
