Jake Alan Davis was born 7-7-07 to former Danville residents Kyle and Linde (Daniel) Davis.

Tammy Davis of Danville didn’t believe in lucky numbers until last Saturday.

That’s when her second grandchild was born — Jake Alan Davis, born on 7-7-07, weighing 7 pounds, 7 ounces.

And there were seven family members in the waiting room.

“Now that he was born on that day, maybe I should change my mind (about lucky numbers),” Davis said.

She added, “I don’t know how many people told us to get lottery tickets on that day.”

Jake, who was 21 inches long, was born at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis to Kyle and Linde (Daniel) Davis, formerly of Danville.

In Danville, four babies were born Saturday at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, according to spokeswoman Gretchen Wesner. None weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces, but three had a “7” in their weights (such as 7 pounds or 7 ounces).

There were no scheduled inductions at Provena that day, which normally aren’t done on Saturdays, except in emergencies, Wesner said.

In Indianapolis, however, Linde Davis said the hospital made room for nine scheduled births, as so many mothers wanted to give birth on that day. Usually, there are just a couple of scheduled births on a Saturday.

Linde also noted she was the seventh woman that day to receive an epidural.

Jake is the first child for the couple, who were married in 2004. He was due on July 2. When he didn’t arrive by then, the doctor called Linde to schedule an induction and said, “Is Saturday OK?”

Linde said that was fine, not realizing all the fuss about the “magic” date of 7-7-07.

“I got off the phone and everyone said, ‘Do you realize what date that is?’ I got a million phone calls and a million e-mails about it,” she said.

Linde and Kyle excelled in sports before graduating from Schlarman High School in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Both won awards for their skill — Linde in basketball, softball, soccer and track; Kyle in football, basketball and baseball.

So, the proud parents already envision an athletic career for their son.

“I decided seven is going to be his lucky number,” Linde said.

In the meantime, she’s enjoying her first child, saying, “He is an amazing boy. We feel so fortunate to have such a healthy young man.

“I still can’t believe it. I keep wondering when we’ll have to give him back.”

She also appreciates all the support she’s getting from family and friends. Kyle is a recruit with the Indianapolis Fire Department, and Linde is a speech pathologist with the Pike Township School District.

The baby’s paternal grandparents are Gary and Tammy Davis of Danville; maternal grandparents are Alan and Linda Daniel of Westville. Great-grandparents are Jack and Wilma Timm of Danville, and Carl and Ann Daniel of Westville.
