Vermilion County Dispatch received several calls at 1:13 p.m. about a semi on fire, according to a press released issue Thursday by Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Phelps.
First responders discovered a semi — with an empty trailer — in flames. The driver was pulled off the roadway in the west-bound lanes at the 3 mile marker.
The driver was not injured. Covington and Perrysville Fire extingushed the fire.
“Both lanes of I-74 were shut down for a brief period of time before first responders on scene were able to get a lane of traffic open,” Phelps said in the release.
Cayuga Town Marshal Vince Short, Deputy Cayuga Town Marshal Roger Lewis, Covington Police Department, Covington Fire Department, Perrysville Fire Department and Illiana EMS all assisted at the scene.
