DANVILLE — Danville police are investigating three apparently unrelated shooting incidents that occurred within 24 hours in the city and left five people wounded, two seriously.
Police Commander Joshua Webb said officers were called to the 1100 block of Seminary Street at 4:11 a.m. Thursday after a report of shots fired.
Officers found a 31-year-old Danville man with gunshot wounds to his back and leg. The victim said he was standing outside a party in the area of Seminary and Plum streets when he heard gunshots. The man was taken to an area hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening wounds.
While investigating the scene, officers learned a second gunshot victim had arrived at Danville's OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, according to Webb. Officers met with that victim, a 33-year-old Danville man, who suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds to his leg and lower back. The victim said he was also at the party near Seminary and Plum streets when he heard gunshots.
Officers also spoke with a witness who reported seeing a male black subject about 6-foot tall and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt firing a handgun in the direction of the party. No other injuries were reported.
At 11:52 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to The Blue Store in the 800 block of Vermilion Street after a report of someone being shot. They found a 32-year-old Danville woman with gunshot wounds to her arm and abdomen. She said she on the lot of The Blue Store when a male black subject started shooting at someone in the parking lot. The victim told police she believes she was caught in the crossfire.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where she remains for treatment of her serious wounds.
While investigating the scene, officers learned of a second victim who had arrived at OSF Sacred Heart with a gunshot wound. Officers met with that victim, a 20-year-old Indianapolis man, who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his shoulder. He told police he was walking in the area of The Blue Store when he heard gunfire and was struck in the shoulder. The victim said he didn’t see who fired the shots.
Officers also spoke to a witness who said he saw a male black subject with dreadlock-style hair shooting at a dark colored SUV in the area of The Blue Store, according to Webb. The subject was last seen running from the area and the dark SUV left the scene toward Woodbury Street.
No other injuries were reported during this incident.
At 2:05 a.m. Friday, police responded to the unit block of Columbus Street after a a report of shots fired. While investigating, officers learned of a victim who had arrived at OSF Sacred Heart.
Officers met with a 20-year-old Danville woman who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She told police she was sitting in a vehicle with friends in the area of the unit block of Columbus when she saw a black male on foot start shooting in her direction. The victim said the man was last seen running southbound from the area.
The victim remains in serious condition Friday afternoon. No other injuries were reported during this incident.
Webb said in the release there is nothing to indicate these incidents are related.
