DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College’s TRIO/Student Support Services program has planned two open houses 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Student Success Center in Room 113 of Cannon Hall on the DACC campus.

Each year, TRIO/Student Support Services program provides services to 190 students, according to a DACC release. Qualifying students must meet at least one of the following criteria: first generation, low income and/or students with documented learning or physical disabilities. The goal of the TRIO/SSS program is to increase retention and graduation rates of program participants.

Parents are welcome to attend the Iced Tea with TRIO & Summer Open Houses. Participants should bring proof of 2018 taxable income for on-the-spot selection.

Three reasons why a student should participate in TRIO: Services include advising, tutoring, scholarship assistance and university transfer visits; work with professional staff that have been nominated by students with the STAR Award; and attend special events, such as the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago.

Upcoming summer events include Illinois State University Open House, Eureka College Discovery Day, transfer workshop and Money & Me workshop.
