A 19-year-old Danville man suffered a serious wound Thursday after being shot while walking on Main Street.

Police Commander Joshua Webb said in a release that officers responded at 9:02 p.m. Thursday to a report of shots fired in the area of East Main and State streets.

As officers investigated the call, they were notified a victim with a gunshot wound had arrived at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.

Officers talked to the 19-year-old, who suffered a gunshot wound to his torso. The victim stated he was walking in the area of Main and State when he heard gunshots and was struck by the gunfire. The victim said he did not see who fired the shots.

The man remains under medical care for his wound, which police said is considered serious but from which he is expected to recover. No other injuries were reported.
