A 4-year-old boy is recovering after he was hit by an alleged drunk driver Monday night.

Demario Brown of Danville was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center and then airlifted to Carle Foundation Hospital after suffering head injuries in the incident just after 6 p.m. Monday.

After remaining in critical condition following the accident, a spokeswoman for Carle Hospital confirmed today that Brown’s condition had been upgraded to fair condition.

Danville police said the 4-year-old was playing in the 900 block of Hazel Street with siblings when he ran out into the road and was struck by a passing pickup truck.

The truck, driven by Lilburn E. Hajny, 76, of Danville, was headed north on the one way southbound street.

Hajny has been arraigned for aggravated driving under the influence in connection with the accident.
