The first Honor Flight for women veterans will be in October.
“Operation HerStory” is teaming up with Honor Flight Chicago and other groups for its first all-women veterans flight to Washington, D.C., from Chicago. The one-day trip will give veterans the chance to visit the war memorials built in their honor, including the Women in Military Service for America Memorial and the Vietnam Women’s Memorial.
Women who have served in any branch of the military during World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War (or who served in the military between 1940 and 1975) is eligible. You do not need to be a combat veteran or have served overseas to be eligible.
The flight can accommodate 125 veterans and their guardians.
This is the first one in Illinois, and the seventh for the United States.
