OAKWOOD – Oakwood Grade School’s Project Success students will face off against area fire responders tonight during several games of dodgeball.
The second annual Dodgeball Night with the First Responders is set for 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Oakwood Grade School gymnasium. The event is free of charge.
The purpose of the event is to build relationships between communities, children and first responders. The first event was so successful that everyone involved wanted to do it again.
“It’s turned into a really great partnership,” Project Success Associate Director Kimberly David said.
“Our site coordinator at Oakwood Grade School, Madison Carlton, is the one who made the initial connection with the first responders,” she said.
“It was awesome to see the kids connect with the first responders,” David said. “They see them as people and they play with them.”
Representatives from several local public safety agencies will participate including Oakwood Police Department, Danville Police Department, Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, Oakwood Fire Department, Illinois State Police, Arrow Ambulance and OSF Pro Ambulance.
The event is funded by Project Success of Vermilion County Inc. Project Success, an after school program, is funded by a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant through the federal government and the Illinois State Board of Education.
