Marvin R. Miller Sr., 72, of Paris, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at his home.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1934, in Georgetown, the son of Ora L. and Garnet Carrington Miller. He married Virginia Zielinski Hiatt on Sept. 13, 1969, in Charleston. She survives. Also surviving are his brother, Lowell (Lorene) Miller of Catlin; his sister, Emma Jean Estes of Georgetown; his children, M. Ray Jr. (Debbie) Miller of Decatur, Micheal (Wanda) Miller of Manassas, Va., Theresa (Curt) Smith of Danville, Mark A. Miller of Robinson, Jane Hiatt (Russ) Guthrie of Westville and Donna Hiatt (Mike) Stephenson of Ridge Farm; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marion, a sister, Leola, and a grandson, William.

Marvin was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was a retired conductor with Conrail. He worked on the railroad for 43 years, retiring in 1996. Marvin also loved to work with wood, making many items for friends and family. He loved to fish and host parties and special occasions at their home. He was an avid Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Illini fan, going to many games to cheer his favorite teams. Marvin gave as much love as he was given and more.

A celebration of Marvin’s life will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at the First Church of Christ in Georgetown. Steve Rutter will be officiating the service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, at Sunset’s Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown.
