— Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church in Greencastle, Ind., was the setting for the Dec. 29, 2012, wedding of Katie Gernand and Daniel Bretscher. Dr. P.T. Wilson, senior pastor at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Larry and Dianna Gernand of Potomac. She is a 2004 graduate of Armstrong Township High School, a 2008 graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a 2012 graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., with a master’s in educational leadership. She is an assistant cross-country and track and field coach for Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
The groom is the son of Paul and Mary Bretscher of Greencastle. He is a 2002 graduate of Greencastle High School and a 2006 graduate of DePauw University with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He is a professional triathlete and multi-sport coach in Mount Vernon.
Maid of honor was Ashley Gernand of Effingham, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Angie Armbrust of Seattle, Wash., cousin of the bride; Lauren Capozza of Cincinnati and Amy Franzen of Savoy, both friends of the bride; and Emily Gernand of Potomac, sister-in-law of the bride. Flower girl was Macey Gernand of Potomac, niece of the bride.
Best man was Jun Yamaguchi of Frostburg, Md., friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Andrew Bretscher of Frostburg, brother of the groom; Luke Beasley of Neptune Beach, Fla., friend of the groom; and Luke and Andy Gernand, both of Potomac and brothers of the bride.
Ring bearers were Evan and Drew Gernand, both of Potomac and nephews of the bride. Usher was Luke Bretscher of Ballwin, Mo., cousin of the groom.
Musicians were Monica Schafer, violinist and aunt of the groom; Scott Schafer, pianist and uncle of the groom; and Maggie Eppelheimer, trumpeter. Readers were Jackie Malan and Elizabeth Traimany, both cousins of the bride.
The reception was held at The Inn at DePauw in Greencastle.
After a honeymoon to Colorado, the couple resides in Mount Vernon, Iowa.
