LOCAL ROUNDUP: Cornjerkers rally to beat Comets in OT

FITHIAN —  Brennan Crose scored seven points in overtime as the Hoopeston Area boys basketball team defeated Oakwood 60-57 on Tuesday in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

Crose and Daniel Lawson each had 19 for the Cornjerkers while Mason Layden had 10 and Nick Papanek added six.

Parker Lee had a game-high 27 for the Comets, who had a 31-27 halftime lead and 41-38 lead going into the fourth quarter, while Kyle Elliott added 20.

The Cornjerkers will play Chrisman on Monday while Oakwood will play Salt Fork.

Georgetown-RF 33

GEORGETOWN — Austin Reinken had 15 points as the Blue Devils scored 32 points in the second half to defeat the Buffaloes.

Austin Toler had 12 points for Bismarck-Henning, who was down 20-14 at halftime, while Chase Connelly added nine.

Matt Penry led Georgetown-Ridge Farm with 11 points while Kyle Coburn had six and Tyson Reed and Dylan Bina each had five.

The Blue Devils will play Schlarman on Friday while the Buffaloes will take on Westville.

WESTVILLE — Tanner Cox had 18 points as the Tigers jumped out to a 24-10 halftime lead and never looked back against the Trojans.

Layn White had 15 for Westville, while Robert Elliott had nine, Jeffery Thompson had seven and Kyle Brazas added six.

Wade Rogers led Armstrong-Potomac with 10 points and Dentler Loschen added six.

The Trojans will play Milford on Friday.

Deland-Weldon 63

First Baptist 57

DANVILLE — Jonathan Garver had 26 points for the Knights, but it was not enough as they lost to Deland-Weldon.

Jermaine Brooks had 10 points for First Baptist while Zane Bumpus and John Martin each added eight.

Hoopeston Area 52

HOOPESTON — Brittany Hay had 27 points with eight rebounds as the Buffaloes held off a late charge by the Cornjerkers to pull out the win.

Maya Green had nine points for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, who was up 25-15 at halftime, while Callan Hall had eight points with 12 rebounds and Kayla Wolpert added five.

Olivia Smith had 14 points, three assists, and three steals for Hoopeston Area, who outscored the Buffaloes 37-30 in the second half, while Sarah Dixon had nine points with eight rebounds, Tori Smock had nine points and Shelby Holzinger had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Buffaloes will play Chrisman on Thursday while the Cornjerkers will take on Milford on Thursday.

Danville 2

DAYTON, Ohio — The Dashers were down 4-0 after the first period and could not recover against the FHL-leading Demonz.

Justin Levac and Jonathan Juliano each had goals for Danville, while Dustin Skinner, Billy Hunt and Chris Affinati each had an assist.

Justin Sand had 10 saves and Kyle McClure had 23 in goal for the Dashers, who will host Dayton on Friday at the David S. Palmer Arena.
