---- — MOUNT CARMEL — The Danville Area Community College men’s basketball team took an early trip to its recent past on Tuesday with a game against Wabash Valley Community College and former head coach Mike Carpenter.

Carpenter, who left DACC to coach Wabash Valley in June, had mixed emotions about the game, which the Warriors won 92-88 in double overtime.

“It was one of those games I didn’t want to coach,” Carpenter said. “It was tough because there were players that you have coached and the coaching staff with (current DACC coach) DaJuan (Gouard).”

“I think it was more about myself and Mike as far as the emotions,” Gouard, who was Carpenter’s assistant, said. “You hate to see a loser in this game and it was tough against a man who you consider a brother.”

On the court, the Jaguars had a 41-34 halftime lead, but the Warriors bounced back to tie things up a 73-73 at the end of regulation.

“We did start off well, but we made some mistakes and they capitalized to tie things up,” Gouard said. “The first overtime was basket for basket, but in the second, they made the shots to win.”

Jalen Loving had 25 points for the Jaguars with six rebounds, Tre Granger came off the bench for 15 points, D’Lando Carter had 14 points with two steals and five rebounds, Virgil Fleming had 11 points and six rebounds and Joseph English had nine points and six assists.

Tyrone Sherman had 26 points for Wabash Valley while Brienne Miles had 17 points, Keith Collins had 15 and Jaguan Lynch added 13 points.

The Jaguars will stay on the road on Friday, where they will start play in the Lake Land Tournament against Highland Community College at 10 a.m.
