---- — GIBSON CITY — Salt Fork senior Courtney LaFoe picked the perfect time for her career best round.

Her 6-over 78 at the Railside Golf Course in Gibson City, not only earn LaFoe a spot in this weekend’s IHSA Class A State Tournament, but it was also good enough for a second-place finish at the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Sectional.

“I had a really great day,’’ LaFoe said. “My putting was spot on and I was hitting everything well off the tees.’’

LaFoe said her previous best score was an 8-over round and she shot a 84 during a practice round on Sunday at Railside.

“I never thought that I was going to shoot a 78,’’ LaFoe said. “But, I made a bunch of one putts and that really helped my score.’’

LaFoe admitted the key was the fact that she was always in a good position.

“I kept most everything in the fairway off the tee and I had a lot of putts for par,’’ she said. “It was exactly the way that I wanted to play my round.’’

This is the second straight year for LaFoe to advance to the Class A State Tournament. Last year, she tied for 44th with a two-day score of 176 as she shot 88 on both days.

“With the way that I played today, I really looking forward to the state tournament,’’ LaFoe said. “And the fact that I’ve been there before should also be a good thing for me.’’

The IHSA Class A State Tournament will be held this Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

Salt Fork teammates Camaryn Todd and Peyton Meade concluded their seasons with rounds of 104 and 118 respectively.

Schlarman Academy’s Sarah Daily and Hoopeston Area’s Holly Morgeson did not advance and their scores were unavailable.
