Storm fight back to get a tie for VVC soccer title


---- — FITIHAN — Jordan Romo scored two goals in the second half as Salt Fork/Westville battled back from an 1-0 halftime deficit to beat Oakwood 2-1 in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

With the win, the Storm clinched a tie with Hoopeston Area for the VVC title. Salt Fork/Westville beat Hoopeston Area on Tuesday to tie things up.

Noah Darr had assists on both Romo goals while Aaron Marx had two saves in goal for the Storm, who will face the winner of Saturday’s Class 1A Regional opener between Schlarman Academy and Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Tuesday.

Mason Welch scored the first goal of the game for Oakwood, while Derek Leverenz had an assist and Landon Turner had three saves.

The Comets end the regular season at 8-11-3 and will play Bismarck-Henning on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Class 1A regional action at Schlarman Academy.

Urbana University 2 Hoopeston Area 1

URBANA — The Cornjerkers lost their second in a row after falling to potential playoff opponent Urbana University High.

“They are the top-seeded team and this was actually a good way to see where we stand with them,” Hoopeston Area coach John Klaber said. “We have to take this and use it if we run into them again.”

Skyler Barnard had the only goal for the Cornjerkers on a assist from David Cornelius while Trey Anderson had four saves.

The Cornjerkers end the regular season at 15-4 and will play either Iroquois West or St. Anne in regional action on Tuesday.

Geo-RF 3 Schlarman 0

RIDGE FARM — Tristen Jurumbo scored twice in the second half as the Buffaloes defeated the Hilltoppers.

Kenneth Lee scored the other goal for Georgetown-Ridge Farm while Reed Smith, Sean Smith and Wyatt Lenhart each had one assist.

Deven McGowan had 17 saves in goal for the Buffaloes, who are 2-13 and will face the Hilltoppers again on Saturday in Class 1A regional action at 11 a.m.


Schlarman 2 Bis-Henn 0

DANVILLE — Jordan Marganski had four kills, 14 assists and three blocks as the Hilltoppers remained unbeaten in the Vermilion Valley Conference with a 25-9, 25-18 win over Bismarck-Henning.

Laura Gross had 11 kills and four aces for Schlarman Academy while Janelle Marion had eight assists.

The Hilltoppers are 12-3 overall and 9-0 in the VVC and will be on the road Monday at Paxton-Buckley-Loda.

The Blue Devils will play Hoopeston Area on Tuesday.

Salt Fork 2 Oakwood 0

CATLIN — Emilie McFadden had nine kills, two aces and five digs as the Storm beat the Comets 25-11, 25-21.

Britton Seamon had five kills and two blocks for Salt Fork, while Allie Trosper had 10 assists and two aces and Jenna Weller had nine assists.

The Storm are 17-5 and 8-1 in the VVC and will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm on Thursday.

Armstrong-Potomac 2 Milford 0

MILFORD — Makenzie Vinson had six kills and four aces as the Trojans won 25-22, 25-14 over the Bearcats.

Rachel Miles had nine kills and seven digs for Armstrong-Potomac while Morgan Zindars had 16 assists and 10 digs and Macey Williams had four blocks.

The Trojans will host Schlarman on Tuesday while Milford will play Westville on Tuesday.

Westville 2 Geo-RF 1

GEORGETOWN — Lauren Barthalow had six kills, seven digs and four blocks as the Tigers beat the Buffaloes 23-25, 27-25, 25-15.

Kelsey Buckman had nine kills and 14 digs for Georgetown-Ridge Farm while Lexi Silva had eight kills, Lexi OVall had 12 assists and Tristyn Mingee and Annelise Garrison each had five kills.

The Buffaloes will host Salt Fork on Tuesday.

Crawfordsville 3 Covington 0

COVINGTON, Ind. — Brooke Ahrens had six kills, 12 digs and three aces but the Trojans lost to Crawfordsville 25-15, 25-18, 25-12.

Rachel Hannah had four kills and Kendra Wallace had 10 digs for Covington, who are 14-6 and will play in the Cascade Invitational on Saturday.
