The Georgetown-Ridge Farm girls basketball team started the season with a 45-42 win over Heritage on Monday.
Callan Hall and Brittany Hay each had 16 points for the Buffaloes with Hall getting 11 rebounds and Hay bringing down eight. Catie Brandt had eight points and Hannah Brandt added six.
The Buffaloes will start action on Friday at the Oakwood Classic, where they will play Blue Ridge.
Lewis & Clark 73
MATTOON — The Jaguars ended the weekend with a 79-73 win over Lewis & Clark Community College in the consolation championship of the Laker Classic on Sunday.
The Jaguars were only up 39-36 at halftime against the Trailblazers and there would be 10 ties and 17 lead changes in the game, but DACC would get the biggest lead of the game at 79-70 with 30 seconds remaining.
David Hicks led DACC with 23 points ands even steals, Derek Shouse had 22 points and was 4-of-9 from 3-point range and Mike Ryce had 18 points and 11 rebounds.
DACC is 5-1 and will play its home opener today against Lincoln Trail College at 7:30 p.m. with the women’s team playing at 5:30 p.m.
FEDERAL HOCKEY LEAGUE
DAYTON, Ohio — Ryan Stern had a hat trick for the Dashers, but they were outgunned in a offensive shootout on Sunday.
Lee McClure had two gials for Danville in the first period, which saw the team only down 3-2 to Dayton. But the Demonz scored six goals in the second period and four in the third.
George Isham, Justin Levac and Henry Coxe each had two assists for the Dashers while Chris Affinati had one assists and Kira Hurley had 21 saves in goal.
The Dashers are 1-5 and will play the 1,000 Islands Privateers on Thursday.
