---- — DANVILLE — Westville sophomore Tyler Strako shot a 45 on Monday to win medalist honors in dual meet against Hoopeston Area at Harrison Park Golf Course.

Strako, along with a 46 from Ryan Riggleman and a 49 from Adam High led the Tigers past the Cornjerkers by four strokes (191-195) in the season-opening match for Westville.

Hoopeston Area’s Anthony Shore (46) finished one stroke behind Strako for medalist honors and Cornjerker teammate Ryan McGill was two strokes back with a 47.

Westville is back in action today with a triangular meet with Oakwood and Watseka.

Bott, Blue Devils struggle at Centennial Charger Classic

CHAMPAIGN — Bismarck-Henning senior Andy Bott tied for 12th individually with an 8-over 80 and the Blue Devils were ninth in the 16-team invitational.

Bott, who has been an all-stater the last two years, took second last week at the Tiger Kick Off Classic with a 75.

The Blue Devils, who shot a 332 last week, finished with a 344 as David Warren (84), Noah Campbell (89) and Logan Reifsteck (91) rounded out their scoring.

Danville’s Brad Taylor had the low round for the Vikings with a 91, while Christian Montgomery (94), Tristan Wolfe (94) and Reed Krynski (94) completed Danville’s foursome. The Vikings were 14th out of 16 teams.

PREP BOYS SOCCER

Oakwood 0, St. Joseph-Ogden 0

OAKWOOD — Landon Turner had a match-high eight saves as he helped the Comets earn a tie with the Spartans.

In the first match for both teams, St. Jospeh-Ogden outshot Oakwood 8-2.

The Comets (0-0-1) will play at Watseka this afternoon.

Watseka 2, Salt Fork/Westville 0

WATSEKA — The Storm outshot the Warriors 14-9, but it was Watseka getting the win with two shots getting into the net.

Salt Fork/Westville goalie Aaron Marx had seven saves in the contest.

PREP BOYS TENNIS

Southmont 3, Fountain Central 2

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Kody Keeling and Ladd Warner picked up victories in singles, but it wasn’t enough for the Mustangs.

Southmont won at No. 2 singles and swept the matches in doubles to get the victory.

Fountain Central’s Doug Keeling dropped a hard-fought three-set match (6-1, 3-6, ,6-2) in No. 2 doubles. The Mustangs are now 1-2 on the season.

South Vermillion 4, Covington 1

COVINGTON, Ind. — Toby Howard rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, but that was the lone bright spot for the Trojans.

Howard dropped the first set (2-6) but came back to win the next two (7-5, 6-2) to get the victory for Covington (0-3).

South Vermillion did lose a set in winning the other four matches.

PREP VOLLEYBALL

PBL 2, Hoopeston Area 0

CISSNA PARK — Erika Solis and Caylen Martin shared team-high honors in kills with four each, but it wasn’t enough for the Cornjerkers in their season-opening match.

Hoopeston Area, which falls to 0-1 in the Timberwolf Tip-off Tournament, also got three blocks from Shelby Holzinger, six assists from Rylee Martin and six digs from Ali Zarate.

Shiloh 2, Oakwood 0

HUME — Peyton Jones had a team-high four blocks to go along with five kills as the Comets came up short against the Raiders.

Joining Jones with five kills was Makayla Gayler, who also had a team-high six assists.

Oakwood (0-1) also got 11 assists from Sadie Edwards, who also record a pair of service aces.
