Schwartz steps up again to coach Milford/Cissna Park

Defensive coordinator to lead Bearcats for second time in four years

MILFORD — When a new coach comes into a program, the process takes a whole summer and maybe part of the season for players to adjust.

It is not the case for Milford/Cissna-Park, who will have Clint Schwartz back after he spent two years on the staff for Nate Albaugh, who went to Champaign Central.

“It has actually been good. I have been defensive coordinator the last two years and I was head coach when most the seniors were freshmen, so the transition has been good,” Schwartz said.

Schwartz was head coach for the 2009 season, when Albaugh left to coach at Alton. The Bearcats was 1-8 in that season, but Schwartz said he has learned a lot from that season.

“When I was coach before I was younger and I didn’t know a lot and I have been working behind coach Albaugh and I know a lot more,” Schwartz said. “I think I know what to expect more of this time around with getting the game plan together and dealing with the players and I think we can do a lot this time.”

Along with knowing a lot more on the field, Schwartz also knows who is going to make the second time a better experience this season with the team, who was 6-4 last season.

“Josh Marquez is our captain and he is a wide reciever and defenseive back and we have put a lot on him for the leadership of the team,” Schwartz said. “His brother, Jacob Marquez, is the quarterback and he is not the most vocal leader, but he knows how to manage the game for us.”

“Coach Schwartz has always been a great coach for us,” Josh Marquez said. “Even when he was not the head coach, he would still drive me home from practice and was very supportive. He has helped out a lot and for him to be our coach can only be a plus for us.”
