LOCAL ROUNDUP: Tidwell steps down from Schlarman

DANVILLE — Schlarman Academy boys basketball coach Gary Tidwell resigned on Monday after just one year at the school.

According to a Schlarman press release, Tidwell stepped down to spend more time with his family after leading the Hilltoppers to their first 20-win season in over 10 years and a regional game win and a top four finish in the Vermilion Valley Conference.

Schlarman Academy is now on the search for Tidwell’s replacement and interested applicants should send a letter of interest and resume to Schlarman Academy or e-mail athletics director Jason Woodworth at wdworthj@schlarman.com.

BISMARCK — Dylan Dodd had 14 strikeouts on the mound and gave up only four hits as the Blue Devils advanced in a Class 2A regional opener.

Chase Swinford hit a RBI double in the fourth inning for the only run of the day for Bismarck-Henning, who is 6-13 and will play St. Joseph-Odgen in a regional semifinal today.

POTOMAC — The Trojans equaled their regular season win total with a win against Judah Christian in a Class 1A Regional.

“It was great to get a win at home,” Armstrong-Potomac coach Darren Loschen said. “We made some mistakes, but we were able to get over it and scoring those three runs in the fifth inning gave us a big boost.”

Shawn Johnson had two RBIs for the Trojans while Dustin Nixon and winning pitcher Wade Rogers each had one RBI.

Rogers gave up only three hits for the win for Armstrong-Potomac, who will play Salt Fork in a regional semifinal on Wednesday.

DANVILLE — Mike Vascura took the loss and drove in the only run for the Vikings as they only had four hits against the Chargers.

Vascura had two of the hits for Danville, who are 8-16 and 3-8 in the Big 12 Conference and will play Mount Zion today.

Cornjerkers, Trojans

Hoopeston Area and Armstrong-Potomac saw their seasons end in the first game on regional action.

The Cornjerkers lost 12-0 to Watseka in a Class 2A regional. Rylee Martin took the loss for the team, who only got one hit.

Armstrong-Potomac lost to Blue Ridge in a Class 1A regional.

CAYUGA, Ind. — The Falcons scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh as they got past the Trojans.

Taylen Balding, Whitney McMasters, Kylah Norris and Melissa Moody each had two hits for North Vermillion with McMasters and Moody each getting one RBI.

Meghan Hall had two hits and one RBI for Covington, who is 10-10. Linzi Woodard got the win for the Falcons, who are 13-5 overall and 9-4 in the Wabash River Conference and will play Covington again today.

ATTICA, Ind. — The Red Ramblers scored 10 runs in the first inning as they were able to beat Rossville in five innings.

Maci Kyger, Karrah Pattengale and Carly Stoll each had four RBIs for Attica while Torrie Ward had three and Ashley Mitton and Jessica DeSutter each got one.

The Red Ramblers are 10-13 and will play Seeger today.

ATTICA, Ind. — Matt Oilar was the medalist with a score of 40 as the Red Ramblers defeated South Montgomery and Covington at Harrison Hills Golf Course.

Damon DeSutter carded a 47 for Attica, while Austin Bossaer shot a 49 and Sam Carlson and Brady Sheridan each shot a 53.

Jansen Applegate shot a 47 for Covington, who was third in the meet.

DANVILLE — The Jaguars got close but could not get a win Sunday in a doubleheader with the Hawks.

In the first game, Brock Sokolowski had the lone RBI for DACC with Tyler McKenzie getting two of the team’s four hits.

McKenzie had two more hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning in the second game.
