BASEBALL

Cubs sign former Dan Coghlan

The Chicago Cubs signed former Danville Dan and former Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Coghlan won the 2009 National League Rookie of the Year with the then-Florida Marlins, when he batted .321 with a .390 on-base percentage. He has been limited by injuries since then, averaging just 66 games played over the past four seasons. The Marlins didn’t offer him a contract in December, making him at free agent.

Coghlan played for the Dans in 2004.
