LOCAL ROUNDUP: Oakwood clinches share of VVC title

BISMARCK — In its final day of action in the Vermilion Valley Conference on Friday, the Oakwood baseball team clinched a tie for the conference title with a 14-1 win over Bismarck-Henning in five innings.

Kaleb Thompson had three RBIs for the Comets with winning pitcher Conor Jarling getting two RBIs and Ryan Bott, Austin McCarty and Jake England each added one RBI.

With the win, the Comets are 17-6 and ended up 13-3 in the VVC, tying up with Salt Fork.

Kane Richmond drove in the only run for the Blue Devils, who are 5-13 and 4-12 in the VVC and will face Hoopeston Area in Class 1A regional action on Monday.

CHAMPAIGN — Nolan First got the only RBI for the Vikings in the sixth inning, but they could not get much more offense against the Maroons.

Chase Thurston had three hits and Dylan Marble took the loss for Danville, who is 8-13 and 3-6 in the Big 12 Conference and will take on Normal West today at Danville Stadium.

BISMARCK — Brittany Ribbe had five hits, two home runs and seven RBIs as the Blue Devils defeated the Comets in six innings.

Lindsay Andrews had four hits a home run and three RBIs for Bismarck-Henning while Lauren McKenzie and Masyn Clough each had two RBIs and Ella Nelson and Ashlee Ronto each had one.

Phoenix LaCombe was the winning pitcher and had four hits for the Blue Devils, who finish the regular season at 10-10 and 9-7 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will play Oakwood again on Monday in regional action.

Somer Wells had three hits and three RBIs for Oakwood while Abbagale Black added one.

North Vermillion 14

CAYUGA, Ind. — Whitney McMasters had three hits and four RBIs as the Falcons beat the Patriots in five innings.

Taylen Balding had three RBIs for North Vermillion, Shannon Kennedy and winning pitcher Linzi Woodard each had two RBIs and Lindsey Moore had one RBI.

The Falcons are 12-5 and 8-4 in the Wabash River Conference and will play North Central (Farmersburg) in a doubleheader today.

Covington 5

MARSHALL, Ind. — Regan Foster had two RBIs as the Trojans took an early lead and held off a late charge to defeat the Warriors.

Ali Holmes got the win and had an RBI for Covington, while Meghan Hall and Madison Hanson each had one RBI.

The Trojans are 10-9 and will play North Vermillion on Monday.

ATTICA, Ind. — The Red Ramblers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the second inning and held on to beat Benton Central.

Karrah Pattengale had two hits and a RBI for Attica, while Carly Stoll, Kaylynn Kirkpatrick and Kara Harmeson each had one RBI.

Stoll got the win and Torrie Ward got the save for the Red Ramblers, who are 8-11 and will play Turkey Run today in a doubleheader.

Urbana 9

Danville 0


URBANA — The No. 5 seeded Lady Vikings season ended in an IHSA Class 2A regional quarterfinal with the No. 4 Tigers.

Urbana moves on to semifinal action on Wednesday when it plays top seed Mahomet-Seymour.

Galleguillos named new DACC coach


DANVILLE — Amber Galleguillos, a former Danville High and Black Hawk East College player, will coach the DACC volleyball team for the 2013 season.

“Amber brings a passion and excitement about Volleyball that will undoubtedly rub off on her players,” DACC athletics director Tim Bunton said. “Her playing experience and time coaching have prepared her for this opportunity and we are looking forward to having her on our staff.”

Galleguillos, who replaces Jamie Hughes as Lady Jaguars coach, had coaching stings at Judah Christian High School as well at the club volleyball circuit in Peoria.
