LOCAL ROUNDUP: Durrell Robinson gets head coaching job

DANVILLE — Durrell Robinson, an all-state basketball player at Danville High in the 1990s, has been named the new head basketball coach at Beggs High School in Beggs, Okla.

Robinson, who was also an All-American at Danville Area Community College and an assistant coach with the Jaguars from 2005-09, is taking over a program that went 17-10 a year ago and the Beggs Demons went 8-1 in their district.

Beggs, Okla. is located in the east central Oklahoma about 30 miles south of Tulsa. The Demons have won five state titles in school history, the last coming in the 1994 school year.

After leaving DACC in 2009, Robinson took a position at Bethany College in Kansas, and he has spent time in Tulsa working basketball camps with former Arkansas standout Lee Mayberry, while also working camps with Tulsa 66ers of the NBA Developement League.

East All-Stars 2

West All-Stars 1

BUTLER, Pa. — Only once in six appearances this summer has Danville Dans left-hander Troy Conyers allowed a run.

The starting pitcher for the West All-Stars gave up two runs in the first inning of Wednesday’s All-Star Game at Pullman Park and that was all the offense the East squad would need.

Dan Zuchowski, the designated hitter from the Chillicothe Paints, was named the game’s MVP as he had an run-scoring double in the first inning off Conyers.

The victory was the first in five years for the East All-Stars and Jaesang Hwang from the West Virginia Miners earned the victory.

Kyle Kempf and Tyler Wampler of the Terre Haute Rex combined to produce the only run for the West team. Kempf led off the fourth with a triple and scored on Wampler’s groundout.

Representing the Danville Dans, Casey Fletcher and Chet Simoneaux each went 1-for-2 at the plate, but after each hit the West team hit into a double play. Third baseman Tyler Selesky drew a walk in his only plate appearance, while reliever Miles Nordgren had a scoreless inning.
