Hilltoppers clinch VVC softball title

MUNCIE —  The Schlarman Academy softball team clinched the Vermilion Valley Conference title on Tuesday in grand fashion with a 13-0 win over Oakwood in six innings.

Elizabeth Hawkins had a grand slam and four RBIs for the Hilltoppers, while Sydne Bryant also had four RBIs with three hits, Lexi Rangel had two hits and two RBIs and Taylor Rangel added one.

Maria Rangel gave up only three hits to get the win for the Hilltoppers, who will host Armstrong-Potomac today. The Comets are 3-19 and 2-11 in the VVC and will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman today.

Hoopeston Area 7

Bis-Henn 6

BISMARCK — Jhance Marshall had three hits and two RBIs as the Cornjerkers held off the Blue Devils.

Brittney Myers had two RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Aaliyah Colunga and Allison Hamilton each had two hits.

Lindsey Andrews had two hits and two RBI’s for Bismarck-Henning while Lani Andrews had three hits and one RBI and Emmie Hawkins had one RBI.

The Blue Devils are 8-10 and 7-7 in the VVC and will play Westville today. The Cornjerkers are 9-17 and 5-10 and will play Oakwood on Friday.

Benton Central 10

Covington 5

OXFORD, Ind. — Megan Hall had two hits and two RBIs for the Trojans, but tit was not enough as they lost to Benton Central,

Losing pitcher Regan Foster, Ali Holmes and Macie Cooper each had one RBI for Covington, who is 9-9 and will play Turkey Run on Friday.



Schlarman 0

GEORGETOWN — Kyle Coburn had eight strikeouts and gave up only three hits as the Buffaloes shutout the Hilltoppers in five innings.

Jake Brasker had two hits and two RBIs for Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman while Trevor Price and Cory Webster each had one RBI.

The Buffaloes are 13-7 and 11-4 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will play Oakwood today.

The Hilltoppers will try to regroup against Armstrong-Potomac today at Danville Stadium.

Hoopeston Area 10

BISMARCK — Kendal Walder gave up only two hits on the mound as the Cornjerkers shut out the Blue Devils.

Andrew Samet, Aiden Berg and Bryce Leigh each had two hits and RBI for Hoopeston Area while Walder, Connor Cline, Chase Vandeveer and Ethan Linder each had one RBI.

The Cornjerkers will play Milford on Friday while Bismarck-Henning drop sot 5-11 and 4-10 in the VVC and will play Westville today.

POTOMAC — The Armstrong-Potomac Trojans managed just three singles in their loss to the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs.

Cole Howie suffered the loss for Armstrong-Potomac, which fell to 1-20 with the defeat.

The Trojans travel to Danville Stadium this afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. contest against the Schlarman Academy Hilltoppers.

Turkey Run 3

North Vermillion 2

MARSHALL, Ind. — The Falcons scored two runs in the fifth, but could not overcome the Warriors in Wabash River Conference action.

The Falcons will play Turkey Run again today at the Banks of the Wabash Tournament.

Tri-County 14

Seeger 13

WOLCOTT, Ind. — The Patriots had 13 hits but was outdone by Tri-County in non-conference action.

Seeger will play Faith Christian today.


Attica wins Bi-County Meet

ATTICA, Ind. — Matt Oilar shot a 81 to take medalist honors as the Red Ramblers won the Bi-County meet at Harrison Hills Country Club.

Sam Carlson shot a 91 for Attica, who shot 374 as a team, while Austin Bossaer carded a 97.

Fountain Central was second at 380 with Cody Hoagland shooting a 82, with Issac Stonebreaker carding a 94 and Shelby Curtis shooting a 97.

Covington was third with 405 as Ethan Snyder shot a 97 and Josh Allen had a 99 and Seeger was fourth at 429 with Chance Howard shooting a 85.

Oilar, Hoagland, Howard, Carlson and Stonebreaker each were named to the All Bi-County team.

Attica 0

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Miranda Synesael, Kiley Swisher and Shelby Brown each won singles matches as the Patriots remained undefeated.

The doubles teams of Brooke McGowen and Emmie Stevens and Becky and Jessi Middleton each had wins for Seeger, who are 10-0 and will play Covington on Thursday.

Fountain Central 1

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Bailey Hill, Mackensey Sorrell and Morgan Brown each had singles wins as the Trojans got past the Mustangs.

The doubles team of Chloe Shields and Raenen Pettit got a win for Covington, who is 9-5.

Fountain Central’s Abby Moore and Clare McGrady teamed up to win for the Mustangs, who are 4-9 and will play North Montgomery today.
