Local Roundup: Storm goes 2-0 on first day at Heritage

BROADLANDS — The Salt Fork boys basketball team had a strong first day at the BSN Classic on Thursday, defeating Shiloh 70-50 and Heritage 58-47.

Max Stutsman was the top scorer for the Storm against Shiloh with 25 points, while Cole Taylor had 17, Alec Dutton scored 16 and Ross Learnard added eight.

Learnard was the top scorer against Heritage with 27 points, with 15 in the fourth quarter, Stutsman had 14, Dutton had eight and Taylor added six.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm had the opposite of Salt Fork’s day, losing 71-48 to Heritage and 64-30 to Decatur Lutheran.

Against Heritage, Kyle Coburn had 21 points, while Dylan Mills and Garrett Martine ach had six and Tyson Reed and Adam Scott each added four.

Coburn was also the Buffaloes’ leading scorer against Decatur Lutheran with eight points, while Matt Penry had six and Ethan Silva and Reed each had five.

The Storm will play Villa Grove at 10 a.m. and Decatur Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. while the Buffaloes will take on Shiloh at 11:30 a.m. and Villa Grove at 5 p.m.

KANSAS — Layn White had eight points, but the Tigers could not reach double digits in any quarter as they lost their first game at the Tri-County Holiday Tournament.

Tanner Cox had four points for Westville while Kyle Brazas and Dillon Turner each had three.

The Tigers will try to regroup today with games against Windsor at 10:30 a.m. and Tri-County at 3 p.m.


Danville, Schlarman 0-2

in Peoria tournament

PEORIA — The Vikings and the Hilltoppers will meet each other today at the Peoria Manual Holiday Tournament, but not the way both teams would like.

Both teams got the opportunity to play each other after each team lost its first two games.

Danville lost 37-26 to Moline and 33-28 to Limestone. Against Moline, Breanna Keys had eight points, while Jade Carter added six. In the Vikings’ second game, Alexus Jimson-Miller had 14 while Alexis Hoskins had five and Keys added three.

The Hilltoppers lost 67-52 to host Peoria Manual as Sierra Bell had 21 points with Janelle Marion scoring 10, Sydne Bryant scoring nine and Holly Huckstadt adding eight. In Schlarman’s 74-50 loss to Springfield Southeast, Bell had 15 points, while Bryant and Huckstadt each had nine and Marion added eight.

The teams will play for the second time this season at 11:15 a.m. today. The Vikings won the first meeting between the teams on Dec. 8 with a 45-27 victory.


Westville wins at North Vermillion

CAYUGA, Ind. — The Tigers picked up four individual titles and beat Rockville 48-12, Attica 36-18, Turkey Run 46-22 and host North Vermillion 42-36 at the North Vermillion Christmas Tournament.

Cody Rice (145 pounds), Jeremy Rivers (182), Tyler Dicken (195) and Jessie Munoz (220) each won titles for Westville.

North Vermillion was second at 3-1 with Julian Whaton (120), Matt Kingery (138), Cody Jumps (152), Wade Harrison (160) and David Kennedy (170) each winning individual crowns.

Attica was fourth at 1-3 with Tanner Henry (106), Nic Blondeel (113), Austin Bossaer (126) and Hunter Eads (132) winning individual titles.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Justin Sand stopped 37 shots to get the shutout as the Dashers defeated the Buccaneers.

Jonathan Juliano and Kevin McCready each had goals for Danville in the third period while Dustin Skinner and Ryan Stern each had assists for the Dashers, who will play the Privateers again today.
