LOCAL ROUNDUP: Toppers shock Buffs

GEORGETOWN —  Sydne Bryant had a two-RBI double in the seventh inning as the Schlarman Academy softball team scored four runs in the inning to get a 7-3 win over Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman on Wednesday and gave the Buffaloes their first Vermilion Valley Conference defeat.

Maria Rangel had four strikeouts to get the win for the Hilltoppers on the mound with two hits at the plate while Joslyn Dietzen had three singles.

Catie Brandt, Callan Hall and Megan Burris each had one RBI for the Buffaloes, who had seven errors in the game.

Lexi Silva had two strikeouts for GRFC, who are 10-2 and 7-1 in the VVC and will play Shiloh today while Schlarman will travel to Champaign to play St. Thomas More.

BISMARCK — Lauren McKenzie had two hits and three RBIs as the Blue Devils held off the Bearcats.

Winning pitcher Emmie Hawkins and Brittany Ribbe each had one RBI while Lindsay Andrews had three hits for Bismarck-Henning, who is 5-5 and 4-2 in the VVC and will play Salt Fork today.

Erin McNally had a home run with three RBIs for Milford, while Cornisha Allen had two RBIs and Taylor Simpson had one.

ARMSTRONG — Carson Richardson and Katie Swisher each had one RBI as the Tigers took advantage of five Trojan errors to get the win.

Bobbi Morris had three hits for Westville, who is 7-5 and 5-2 in the VVC and will play Hoopeston Area on Friday.

Johanna Bruens had a home run and four RBIs for Armstrong-Potomac, while Makenzie Vinson and Tiffany Smith each had one.

The Trojans are 6-6 and 4-5 and will play Salt Fork on Friday.

URBANA — The Vikings only got three hits as they lost to Urbana in Big 12 Conference action.

Dylan Marble took the loss while Chase Thurston drove in the lone run for Danville, who is 6-7 and 1-2 and will play Champaign Centennial today.

POTOMAC — Tanner Cox and Christian Jackson each had two RBIs as the Tigers scored a run in every innings but the fifth against the Trojans.

Aaron Marx, Tyler Dicken, Jeffery Thompson, Austin Millholland, Adam High and winning pitcher Kyle Brazas each had one RBI for Westville, who will host Hoopeston Area on Friday.

John Snyder, Lane Esteppe and Mark Terrell each had one RBI for the Trojans, who will play Salt Fork on Friday.

CHAMPAIGN — Tyler Ellis and Cole Cunningham won singles matches for the Vikings, but could not do much else against the Sabers.

The team of Ellis and Kevin Lichtenberger won in doubles for Danville, who will host Urbana today at 4 p.m. at the Danville Tennis Club.

OXFORD, Ind. — Miranda Synesael and Kiley Swisher each won singles matches for the Patriots as they got past Benton Central on the road.

The doubles team of Becky and Jessie Richardson also won for Seeger, who is 5-0.
