LOCAL ROUNDUP: Cornjerkers beat Trojans

POTOMAC — Connor Cline had three RBIs as the Hoopeston Area baseball team defeated Armstrong-Potomac 6-1 in Vermilion Valley Conference action.

Aiden Berg had two doubles and an RBI for the Cornjerkers while Geno Wagoner added a RBI. Hoopeston Area is scheduled to play Tri-Valley and Cissna Park today.

Lane Esteppe had the lone RBI for the Trojans, who are 1-11 and 1-7 in the VVC.

ARMSTRONG — Courtney Hilleary had three RBIs as the Trojans scored eight runs in the fourth to take the lead for good in a slugfest with the Cornjerkers.

Ashley Gayheart, Megan Porter and winning pitcher Morgan Zindars each had two RBIs for Armstrong-Potomac, while Johanna Bruens had four hits and one RBI and Makenzie Vinson and Megan Cain also added one RBI.

Madie Cline had a home run and three RBIs for Hoopeston Area while Aaliyah Colunga had a home run and two RBIs and Brittney Myers also had two RBIs.

The Trojans are 6-5 and 4-4 in the Vermilion Valley Conference and will play Salt Fork on Wednesday, the Cornjerkers drop to 4-8 and 1-4 and is scheduled to play in the Clinton Tournament today.

COVINGTON, Ind. — Mallory Ponder and Lainey Holt each had a home run and three RBIs as the Trojans won in five innings in Wabash River Conference action.

Aliah Larsen had three hits and two RBIs for Covington, while Kendra Wallace had three hits and one RBI, and Kelsey Goley, Wallace and winning pitcher Regan Foster each added one RBI.

The Trojans are 4-3 and will play Riverton Parke today in a doubleheader.
