---- — CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women’s basketball team is having no problems scoring this season as the Fighting Illini defeated the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes 93-70 on Thursday night at the State Farm Center.
It’s the second time this season that Illinois has scored more than 90 points and the second-highest point until under second-year head coach Matt Bollant.
Amber Moor recorded a double-double for Illinois (2-1) with a season-best 27 points and a career-high 19 rebounds, while freshman Jacqui Grant had a career-high 22 points for the Fighting Illini.
“I’m excited for our team. They continue to grow and get better and do a lot of really good things on the offensive end,” said Bollant. “I thought these two (Grant, Moore) really started the game well and got us going on offense. We’ve got to grow defensively and that’s our challenge. How good we are going to be as a basketball team will depend a lot on how we defend. Right now we’re really good on the offensive end and we’re exciting to watch but we need to grow defensively.”
Moore, who is the career record 3-point holder at Illinois, has scored 20 or more points in all three games this season and those 19 rebounds were the eighth highest single game total in Illinois history.
Ivory Crawford and Sarah Hartwell also reached double figures for Illinois with 14 and 11 respectively, and they both had five assists for Illinois.
Up next for the Illini is a home game on Sunday against Alcorn State. That game is slated to tip off at 1 p.m.
