Rain stops Danville Dans

DANVILLE — Since the calendar has flipped to July, the only thing that has been able to stop the Danville Dans was Mother Nature.

Wednesday’s early-morning thunderstorm not only flooded the field, but it knocked out power at Danville Stadium.

That combination was just too much to overcome and the regularly scheduled game for Wednesday night against the Hannibal Cavemen was rained out.

The game will be made up on Tuesday, July 23rd as part of a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m.

Danville, which has won a season-high nine straight, will attempt to equal the league-best win streak of 10 games by the West Virginia Miners in tonight’s game at Danville Stadium against the Quincy Gems.

The Dans (25-11) are just a half-game ahead of the Gems (25-12) in the Prospect League’s West Division, and tonight’s game is the first of four games between the teams before next week’s Prospect League All-Star break.

Danville and Quincy will play three games on Sunday and Monday at QU Stadium with a doubleheader on Sunday.

First pitch for tonight’s game is set for 6:30 p.m. and tickets for tonight’s game are $6.

But tonight is also Cards-Cubs night at the ballpark, so any fan wearing a Cardinals, a Cubs or any Major League Baseball apparel to Danville Stadium can get into the game for just $2.
