---- — PARIS — Even though the Post 210 Junior Speakers entered the Junior Legion State Tournament because another team failed to show, they are going to make the most of this second chance.
In the tournament because Moultrie-Douglas did not have enough players, the Speakers took their place and won their first game of the tournament on Saturday, defeating Jerseyville 3-1 in 11 innings.
After both teams scored one run in the first inning, they did not score anything until the 11th, where Post 210 scored two runs.
Grant LaMar had three hits and a RBI for the Junior Speakers, while Christian Jackson had two hits and a RBI and Peyton Cutrell added another RBI.
Dalton Strawser picked up the win on the mound with nine strikeouts in nine innings pitched.
The Junior Speakers are 24-6 and will continue play today at 3 p.m. against either Moline or Orient.

Deckard wins NAC honor
AURORA — Danville’s Briana Deckard was one of 159 Aurora University athletes who earned the honor of Northern Athletics Conference Scholar-Athlete.
The award requires a student-athlete to maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average for the 2012-2013 academic year.
In her senior season, Deckard ran four races for Aurora with her best time being a 24 minute, 46 second performance at the Falcon Invitational in Mequon, Wis.
