---- — North Ridge practice and tryout times

DANVILLE — North Ridge Middle School has set up their practice and tryout times for the fall season.

The cross country team will have practice from Aug. 5-9 from 6-7 p.m. at Lincoln Park and the baseball team will have tryouts from Aug. 6-9 from 3-5 p.m. at the American Legion ballpark.

Students must have a current athletic physical on file in order to tryout and participate.

Danville High School Practices

The Danville High School fall teams will be having practices to start the season in the next few weeks. All athletes must have the following on or before the first day of tryouts: Participation Sheets and Waiver Forms, an athletic fee of $25 (checks must be made out to DHS) and a copy of a current physical less than one year old.

For the football team, sign-ups are in the athletics office and participation sheets will be available in the main office and athletics office.

Equipment pick up is at DHS in the equipment room on Aug. 12 for varsity and sophomores at 9 a.m. and freshmen at 10 a.m. All paperwork must be completed at this time.

Practice begins Aug. 14 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Danville High School for everyone. Bring lunch and a drink.

For volleyball, practice begins on Aug. 14 and paperwork and fees must be up to state by then. Players must have volleyball shoes, knee pads and water.

Practice times are tryouts at 10 a.m.-noon with an afternoon practice from 2-4 p.m.

For girls tennis, practice will start on Aug. 14 at the Danville Tennis Club from 9 - 11 a.m.

The boys and girls cross country teams will meet on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Park. The team will be meeting on the Logan Avenue side of the park.

For boys soccer, there will be a organizational meeting for players and parents on Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. at the DHS Auditorium. The first practice is Aug. 14 from 6:30-8:30 a.m. at the Danville Soccer Association fields.

The boys golf team will hold an organization meeting at Turtle Run Golf Course on Monday at 9 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend and practice information will be dispersed at the meeting.

The girls swim team will have their first practice on Aug. 14 at DHS with dry-land work from 10 a.m. - noon and work in the pool from 2-4 p.m.

Westville Junior High baseball practice

WESTVILLE — Seventh and Eighth grade baseball players who will be attending Westville Junior High will have practice starting on Aug. 5 from 3-5 p.m. at Westville Junior High Field.

Blue Angels to hold tryouts

DANVILLE — The new Blue Angels traveling softball team will have tryouts for the 2014 season for girls in the 6th-12th grades.

The tryouts will take place Aug. 9 from 5-7 p.m. and Aug. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the UAW Field in Tilton, behind the Village of Tilton building.

Outlaws to hold tryouts

HOOPESTON — The CI Outlaws 12 and under fast pitch softball team will be having tryouts for the 2014 season.

The tryouts will be on Aug. 10 at the Hoopeston Area High School softball field from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

CATLIN — The Illiana Sparks 16 and under traveling softball team will have tryouts for the 2014 season.

The tryouts will be on Aug. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Catlin High School softball fields.

Catlin girls basketball to hold practice

CATLIN — The Catlin fifth and sixth grade basketball teams will start practice on Aug. 12 from 8-10 a.m.

All girls interested should bring tennis shoes, water bottle and current physical papers.

WCI Fusion to hold tryouts

The WCI Fusion travel softball organization will have tryouts for the 2014 season for its 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under and 16 and under teams.

The tryouts will be Aug. 17 at Chandler Field in Georgetown and Aug. 18 at Covington City Park in Covington, Ind. For Aug. 17, 8U and 10U tryouts will run from 9-11 a.m., the 12U and 14 U tryouts will run from 1-3 p.m. and the 16 and under will go from 3:30-5:30 p.m.

On Aug. 18, the 8 and 10 under teams will tryout from 1-3 p.m. EDT, while the 12 and 14 will go from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and the 16 and under team will tryout from 6-8 p.m.

Players can also set up a private tryout if these times and dates do not work.

Uncle Joe Cannon Jamboree

DANVILLE — The Vermilion Voles Vintage Base Ball Club will host the seventh annual “Uncle Joe” Cannon Base Ball Jamboree at Kennekuk County Park on Aug. 17.

The games begins at noon and the event will feature four vintage base ball clubs: The Belleville Stags, the Indianapolis Hoosiers, the Deep River (Hobart, Ind.) Grinders and the Voles.

The games will be played by 1858 rules and players will be wearing replica uniforms and using replica equipment from the late 19th Century era.

Admission is free and games will be played on the Kennekuk ball fields located across from the Lake Mingo Access Parking Area. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

Southview to hold baseball tryouts

DANVILLE — Southview Middle School is holding boys baseball tryouts on Aug. 6 at 9 a.m.at the Carl Gruber Sports Complex in Tilton.

Any student between sixth and eighth grade attending Southview this year is eligible to tryout.

All participants are asked to bring an up-to-date physical, baseball equipment and water.

Girls travel softball team tryouts

ST. JOSEPH — There will tryouts for a new 16 and under Class A girls travel softball team on Aug. 6 at St. Joseph-Ogden High School.

The registration is 6 p.m. and the tryouts begin at 6:30 p.m.

SJO softball coach Randy Wolken and staff members will be on site for the tryout and evaluation process.

Players can not turn 17 years of age before Jan. 1, 2014.

The rain date is Aug. 7.

We Mean Business Golf Scramble

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce is holding the first “We Mean Business” Golf Scramble at Railside Golf Club.

Each hole in the scramble will have a prize and after the tournament, there will be a special hole-in-one shootout where if a man shoots in from 165 yards or a woman shoots in from 150, that person wins $1,000,000.

The day starts at noon with a shotgun start, with the champions banquet at 5 p.m. and the hole-in-one shootout at 6 p.m.

A foursome can enter with a entry feet of $240, which includes golf and cart, steak dinner, tee prizes, door prizes and team prizes.

Mid-USA Mojo tryouts

TILTON — The Mid-USA Mojo Traveling Softball team will have tryouts for the 2014 12 and under team on Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Tilton Ballpark.

Players must be 12 years of age or under on Jan. 1, 2014 to apply and players should bring their equipment for skills assessment.

Kennekuk summer fun run/walks

DANVILLE — The Kennekuk road/trail runners will host their summer fun run/walks every Wednesday from June 5-Aug. 21 at Kickapoo State Park.

There will be one, two or three mile runs and they start at 6:15 p.m. at the Meadow Shelter and it is free for everyone.

There will also be cookouts if the weather permits and there will be no runs on July 3.

ECI Dynamite tryouts

TILTON — The ECI Dynamite traveling softball team will be having tryout for the 2014 season on Aug. 11 at the UAW 579 field in Tilton from 1-4 p.m.

The tryouts will be for the 10 and under, 14 and under and 18 and under teams with a player’s ages determined by the player’s age as of Jan. 1.

Players should bring a glove, cleats, bat and a helmet and the rain date is for Aug. 18.

DANVILLE — The Eastern Illinois Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host its annual golf classic fundraiser on Aug. 24 at Harrison Park Golf Course.

The shotgun start for the event is at 8 a.m. with lunch afterwards.

Tiger 5K set for August

WESTVILLE — The Westville High School Athletic Boosters will be hosting the Tiger 5K on Aug.31 at Giacoma Elementary School at Westville.

Registration for the event will start at 7 a.m. with the race starting at 8 a.m.

This is a family-friendly walk/run to benefit Westville High School students.

The cost of the events if $25 per individual or $80 for a family of four. The cost includes an event t-shirt if registered by Aug. 23. There will also be race day registration available.

DTC to hold Fall Clinics

DANVILLE — The Danville Tennis Club will be holding clinics throughout the fall for junior players and high school players.

Three junior clinics will go from Sept. 9- Oct. 21: The pee-wee class is for players ages 3-5 and will run on Mondays from 4-4:30 p.m.; the beginner/advanced beginner will go on Mondays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on Mondays for juniors ages 6 and up who are not able to serve from the baseline and Future Stars will go from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for juniors who are serving from the baseline and have some tennis experience.

Tournament training will run from Sept. 11-Oct. 23 on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. The Class is for tournament-level junior players.

Also there will be Ralleyball on Sundays from Oct. 27-Dec. 8 from 1-2 p.m for players ages 5-12 years old.

The league focuses on beginning junior players and introduces them to the game of tennis. The game is altered slightly by modifying the traditional serve and scoring to make it fun for kids. The sign-up deadline is Oct. 24.

Junior Team Tennis will start with practices on Oct. 26 with matches running from Oct. 27-Dec. 8 on Sundays at 2, 3 or 4 p.m. for players high school age and younger. The sign-up deadline is Oct. 18.

High School clinics will run from Oct. 22 to Dec. 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. Fun drills and activities and instruction to work on all aspects of the game.
