Danville senior swimmer Jon Delzell competed in the preliminaries of the IHSA State swim meet on Friday against some of the best in the state.
Delzell, who won the 50 and 100 –yard freestyle races in last week’s sectional, did not have the same luck in the prelims, taking 30th in the 50 free (22.11) and 39th in the 100 (48.49).
“He had a muscle in his back that was pulled and we tried to get him ready to go,” Danville coach Carl Long said. “You have good days and you have bad days but he had a great season.”
Delzell ends his season with the two sectional titles, a Big 12 Conference title and a new school record in the 50 freestyle.
