LOCAL ROUNDUP: Blue Devils win season opener

CISSNA PARK — A steady performance in all four quarters allowed the Bismarck-Henning Blue Devils to coast past the Clifton Central Comets on Monday night at the Cissna Park Tournament.

Bismarck-Henning (1-0) scored 10, 9, 12 and 11 points in the four quarters, while holding Clifton Central to just five in the first and four in the fourth.

Sophomore Lindsey Andrews was the leading scorer for the Blue Devils with 16 points. She also had seven rebounds and three steals, teammate Brooke Walsh also finished with seven rebounds in the victory.

Other top scorers for Bismarck-Henning were Addie Voyles with eight, while Maddie Winkler and Jessica Hall both finished with seven.

The next game for the Blue Devils in Cissna Park will be Wednesday against a Vermilion Valley Conference rival, the Armstrong-Potomac Trojans.

First Baptist 42, Decatur Christian 30

DANVILLE — Mattie Bumpus scored eight of her team-high 12 points in the first half as the Danville First Baptist Knights opened their season with a win over Decatur Christian.

First Baptist had a balanced attack as Ashley Greazer scored nine of her 11 points in the second half, and Morgan Millikin added nine in the winning cause.

Danielle Papis had a game-high 19 for Decatur Christian.

Women’s College Basketeball

Illinois 112, Alcorn State 28

CHAMPAIGN — The Illinois women’s basketball team broke the school record for margin of victory on Sunday.

Seven Fighting Illini players scoring in double figures as Illinois defeated Alcorn State 112-28 before 2,909 fans at the State Farm Center.

Amber Moore nearly outscored the Lady Braves by herself as she had a game-high 25 points and she was 5-of-12 from 3-point range. Also reaching double digits for Illinois (3-1) was Sarah Hartwell with 16, Sarah Livingston chipped in with 12, Ivory Crawford finished with 12, while Jacqui Grant, Taylor Tuck and Taylor Gleason all had 11.

Livingston had her first career double-double with 12 rebounds to go along with her 12 points, and she also had five blocks and three steals.

Illinois is back in action on Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest against Southern Illinois at the State Farm Center.
