---- — COVINGTON, Ind. — The Fountain Central football team took charge from the start in Friday’s game against Covington and ended up with a 68-0 win that kept them in a tie for the Wabash River Conference lead.

The Mustangs marched down the field on their first drive and after 92 seconds into the game, they were up 7-0.

Covington then received the kickoff and had a nice return, but then on the first play from scrimmage they fumbled to give the ball back to the Mustangs, who would take a 14-0 lead.

After a Trojans punt, the Mustangs connected on a 61-yard TD pass from Kody Pierce to Trevor Loveall to lead 21-0 with 7 minutes, 38 seconds left in the first quarter.

By the end of the first quarter the score had increased to 35-0 with Fountain Central in control of the game.

Covington had another nice drive that got them into the red zone but turned the ball over again.

At the half, the score was 61-0 and continuous clock was in for the second half. Fountain Central closed out the scoring late in the third quarter with a touchdown for a score of 68-0.

“We tried to establish the passing game tonight because teams know we have a solid running game. I thought we executed the game plan well and did things in a positive way,” Fountain Central coach Brian Moore said. “Pierce is a very good player and we need to get him more opportunities.”

“It is good to beat a rival and all week in practice we were fired up in practice preparing for the game,” Fountain Central’s Jacob Brown said. He continued to say that the team has good chemistry and are always encouraging one another.

Covington running back Garrett Johnson ran hard all night and was a bright spot for the Trojans, who are now 0-4 and will play Seeger next week.

“The team is getting better each week and it didn’t show on scoreboard tonight but he can see it on camera and on the field,” Covington coach Travis Brown said.

Fountain Central is now 4-0 and will play Attica next week.
