Blue Devils get past Bearcats on late-second FG


---- — BISMARCK — Dalton Duncan hit a 30-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the game as the Bismarck-Henning Blue Devils got past the Milford/Cissna Park Bearcats 17-15 in Friday’s Vermilion Valley Conference opener.

The Blue Devils took the lead in the second quarter on a 11 and a 15-yard touchdown run by Patrick Ganley, who ended up with 232 yards on 25 carries.

But the Bearcats roared back in the fourth with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Marquez to Josh Marquez and a 54-yard run by Josh Marquez with Jacob Marquez running in for the two-point conversion.

Jacob Marquez had 121 yards passing and ran for 81 more while Josh Marquez had 66 yards rushing.

The Blue Devils are 3-0 and 1-0 in the VVC and will play Westville next week while the Bearcats are 2-1 and will take on Salt Fork next week.

GEORGETOWN — Dylan Bina scored on his first two runs of the game as the Buffaloes gave the Cornjerkers a rude return to VVC action.

Bina ended up with 143 yards with three touchdowns, while Ethan Silva had 87 yards and a touchdown, Skyler Reed had 61 yards and a touhcodwn, Ty Mills returned a pass 49 yards for a touchdown and Damien Donoven returned a punt 44 yards for another score.

The Buffaloes are 3-0 and will play Cerro Gordo next week while the Cornjerkers will travel to Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac.

Seeger 64, Riverton Parke 16

MONTEZUMA, Ind. — The Patriots exploded for 61 points in the first half as they got their first win of the season.

Trevor Bowlus had 74 yards on the ground with four touchdowns while Jacob Halsema had 75 yards with three scores. Jake Fell was 5-of-6 for 75 yards and two touchdowns -- one to Cole Blessing and another to Terron Wade.

Seeger is 1-3 and 1-2 in the Wabash River Conference and will play Covington next week.

North Vermillion 37, North Central 7

FARMERSBURG, Ind. — The Falcons gave up the first points of the season, but continued their strong start.

North Vermillion is 4-0 and 3-0 in the WRC and will play Riverton Parke.


Danville competes in Day 1 of invite

MATTOON — Tristan Wolfe led the Vikings with a 90 as the team scored 367 after the first day of the Mattoon Invitational.

Brad Taylor and Jon Brinkley each had a 91 for Danville while Christian Montgomery had a 95, Chandler McBride had a 96 and Reed Krynski had a 101.

The Invitational continues today at 8 a.m.


Hoopeston Area, 5 Watseka 0

HOOPESTON — Elijah Yates had two goals as the Cornjerkers easily won their first game at the Cornjerker Classic.

Brennan Crose and Chase Bouse each had a goal and a assist for Hoopeston Area while Nathan Michael had one goal, Andrew Samet had two assists and Nate Allison had one assist.

Trey Anderson had two saves for his fourth shutout of the season for the Cornjerkers, who are 6-1 and will face Fisher and St. Joseph-Ogden today in Classic action.

Also, Oakwood lost to Blue Ridge 2-0 in Friday’s action.
