Burleson, Swiersz win four events in Danville victory

DANVILLE — Marissa Burleson won two individual events and was a part two winning relays as Danville defeated Champaign Central 109-73 in a home-opening dual for first-year coach Marcie Burleson.

The younger Burleson, swimming for her mother, started off the meet along with Madeline Swiersz, Grace Jackowski and Rachel Parker winning the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2 minutes, 7.56 seconds. That was more than six seconds faster than Central’s relay team. Those same four would combine to also win the 200 freestyle relay by almost six seconds over Danville’s No. 2 relay team.

In addition to the two relay victories, Marissa also won the 100 freestyle (59.37) and the 100 backstroke (1:13.10). Swiersz also added a pair of individual event wins to her victories on those two relays. Swiersz claimed the 200 individual medley (2:32.11) and the 100 breast stroke (1:19.22).

The Vikings won all but one event in the dual against the Maroons. Champaign Central’s Payton Stillman won the diving as Danville didn’t have an individual in that event.

Danville’s winning 400 relay team consisted of Abbi Cortapassi, Kennedy Thurston, Kelsie Lichtenberger and Tess Shore. Cortapassi also won the 200 freestyle event, Shore claimed the 500 freestyle race and Victoria Omark was first in the 100 butterfly for the Vikings.
