CHARLESTON — Johnny Leverenz finished on top of the boys race on Saturday as the Danville boys cross country team took fourth at the Charleston Invitational.
Leverenz, who opened the year with a course record at the Kickapoo Kickoff Classic, won the race in a time of 15 minutes, 12 seconds for the Vikings, while Carl Way took 17th (16:51), Jeremiah Cooley was 31st (17:37), Tommy Session was 55th (18:15) and Josh King was 60th (18:22).
In the girls race, Danville took fourth as Sadie Elliott was third with a time of 18:59. Shreja Patel was 22nd (21:54), Emone Davis was 33rd (22:41), Emily Cleveland finished 34th (22:55) and Dezerai Huckleberry was 43rd (23:34).
The Vikings return to action next weekend at the First to the Finish Classic in Peoria.

Vikings take third at Edwardsville
EDWARDSVILLE — The Vikings won three of their four matches to end up third at the Edwardsville Tournament.
“We took third out of 32 teams, so that is pretty good,” DHS coach Mark Bacys said. “We were fourth last week and third this week and I think next week at Mattoon, we can defend our title.”
The doubles teams of Rachael and Becca Lewis, Amy Shah and Neha Patel and Erin Marble and Katie Koebrich were each 3-1 for the Vikings while Taylor Ellis was 3-1 and Amanda Vadenboncoeur was 2-1.
The Vikings will play Rantoul on Thursday to get ready for next weekend’s Mattoon Tournament.
Storm goes 2-2 in tournament
FARMER CITY — Salt Fork dfeated Urbana University High and Villa Grove to get a 2-2 record at the Blue Ridge Tournament.
Emilie McFadden was named to the All-Tournament team, getting seven kills, three aces and 10 digs for the Storm, while Britton Seamon had 14 kills, six blocks and seven aces.
Kayln Learnard had 10 kills, three aces and two blocls while Jenny Kimbro had nine kills, three aces and 11 digs and Allie Trosper had 42 assists and four aces.
