DANVILLE — There's no place like home.
That was the sentiment of Oakwood's Bobby Pierce on Sunday night.
The Vermilion County late model racer, driving his back-up Pierce Racing stock car, claimed his first feature win of the 2013 season in the Salt Fork Shootout at the Vermilion County Speedway.
Pierce, the 2013 Champion Spark Plugs Search for a Champion winner, slipped past Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin on the 20th lap of the 30-lap feature as the two drivers battled with lapped traffic.
Once Pierce got around Sheppard there was no looking back, and only the race's third caution with three laps remaining, created any drama for the hometown racer.
Pierce just stuck to his line for the final three circuits earning the first-place prize of $2,000.
Rounding out the top five were Brian Shirley, Ryan Unzicker and Scott Schmitt.
In the UMP Modified main event, Devin Gilpin went from the pole position to feature winner, and in the street stock division, it was Jerrad Krick holding off Jesse Simmons.
