DANVILLE — Coming into the 25th Annual Danville Open horseshoe tournament, Alan Francis of Defiance, Ohio, and Joan Elmore of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., have combined to win 18 titles.
So, it should come as no surprise that Francis went 9-0 to win the Men's Class A title for the 12th time in tournament history, while Elmore went 9-0 to win the Women's Class A title for her eighth time.
Francis finished with a remarkable 91.15 ringer percentage, one of his best peformances in his horse shoe career. Elmore had a 78.14 ringer percentage in winning her title.
In the Class A Elders class, Herschel Walters of Bourbon, Ind., won the title with an 8-1 record.
Joining the Class A champions was Oakwood's Bob Block claiming the Class B title with a 5-1 record and a 60.00 ringer percentage.
Other titles on Sunday went to Richard Timmer of Rock Island winning Class E, Carl Kaiser of Des Moines, Iowa, won Class I, Guy Modde of Elgin, won Class L, John L. Wellsand Jr. of Freetown, Ind. won Class O and Ashley Ashton of North Vermon, Ind., won Class Q.
