Deckard Memorial is set

DANVILLE — The Myron Deckard Memorial fundraiser Shoot will be held at the Danville Rifle & Pistol Club Range on June 9th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This shoot benefits the Sgt. Myron Deckard Memorial Scholarship fund through the Danville Area Community College. A rain date for June 15th has been set aside using the same hours.

The club shooting range is located four miles north of Oakwood. Take the Oakwood Exit from I-74. Go north and continue four miles through Newtown and past Oakwood Junior High School. Turn left on County Road 2250 N (1st left after the school) and follow it west ½ mile to the range.

The entry fee is $5 per stage and includes a chance to win door prizes. Door prizes will be awarded at the end of the shoot and you must be present to win.

There will be two raffles. Raffle one consists of three draws: The first draw is first choice of a Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911 or an S&W M&P 9 mm or Ruger 380 automatic with laser sight or $250. The 2nd draw has a choice of one of the remaining guns or $250. The 3rd draw has a choice of the remaining gun(s) or $250. Raffle two will be a Colt AR-15, M4 carbine Model LE 6920 or $700 cash. You need not be present to win.

Those who plan to shoot will need to bring centerfire pistols/revolvers or .22 rimfire pistols with 10 round capacity, a minimum of 50 rounds of ammo, along with eye and ear protection. The targets will be steel challenge targets.

For additional information contact Larry Pasquale at 443-2050.

Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputy Myron Deckard was killed in the line of duty in June of 2001.

With Deckard’s family and the Danville Rifle & Pistol Club raising money, the Myron Deckard Scholarship Fund now finances ten $500 scholarships annually. The club itself has now raised $51,000 through its various events.

If you are a shooter, please come out and support this event.

More on Buffalo Gnats

I’ve gotten some response on asking for repellents for the Buffalo Gnats that have been bothering so many people. One reply stated that imitation vanilla, which I have mentioned for several years now, is very effective in keeping these gnats away. This reader stated that it is best applied with a spray bottle for maximum effect. He also told me that Oragel is effective for treating the bites. The Wal-Mart brand of this is Orasol.
