LOCAL ROUNDUP: Tiger softball beats Vikes

WESTVILLE — With some timely hitting in the fourth and fifth innings, the Westville softball team had just enough to defeat Danville on Thursday 5-4 in non-conference action.

With Westville’s Carson Richardson and Danville’s Chloe Davis pitching, both teams could not get a run across in the first three innings before Westville came alive with hitting and some errors by Danville.

The Vikings came back in the sixth inning with the help of two Tigers’ errors to score all of their runs, but could not complete the comeback.

Ashley Hoffman and Bobbi Morris each had two RBIs for Westville while Dani Gabehart and Katie Swisher each had three hits. Katy Aguirre had an RBI for Danville.

The Tigers are 2-3 and will face Hoopeston Area today while the Vikings are 2-3 and will host Unity for a doubleheader on Saturday.

CATLIN — Emilie McFadden had a three-run double in the first inning to give the Storm more than enough to beat the Trojans.

Camaryn Todd had two hits and a RBI for Salt Fork while Lexie Smith had three hits and Payton Meade gave up six hits for the shutout.

The Storm is 4-1 and will play Armstrong-Potomac today.

MUNCIE — The Comets committed nine errors and did not get a hit in losing to the Rockets in four innings.

Lexi Cortipassi took the loss for Oakwood, who is 0-4 and will face Milford today.

WEST LEBANON, Ind. — Tori Munson hit a triple with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to give the Patriots the win against Tri-County.

McKenna Mitchell came into the game in the firth inning and picked up her first varsity victory.

The Patriots are 2-1 and will play at the Clinton Central Invitational on Saturday.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Karrah Pattengale hit a home run as the Red Ramblers poured on 18 hits in winning over Faith Christian in 16 innings.

Torrie Ward got the win for Attica, who will be at the Clinton Central Invitational on Saturday.

POTOMAC — The Trojans could only get two hits and committed five errors in losing to the Falcons in five innings.

Isaiah Robles took the loss and John Snyder had a double for Armstrong-Potomac, who is 0-4 and will face Salt Fork today.

HOOPESTON — Connor Cline had a grand slam and eight RBIs for the Cornjerkers, but they could not overcome East Central’s offense.

Kendal Walder had eight strikeouts on the mound for Hoopeston Area, who will host Westville today.

ATTICA, Ind. — Bailey Hill, Mackensey Sorrell and Morgan Brown each won singles matches as the Trojans won the season opener for both them and the Red Ramblers.

Chloe Shields and Raenen Pettit teamed up to win in doubles action for Covington, who will face Fountain Central on Monday.

The doubles team of Bryson Sullivan and Lyndsey Snyder won for Attica, who will play South Vermillion on Monday.

RENSSELAER, Ind. — Tyler McKenzie had three RBIs on a double in the eighth inning but it was not enough as the Jaguars lost only their second game of the season.

Pete Strommen had two hits for DACC while Cash Kiser had three strikeouts in taking the defeat.

The Jaguars are 13-2 and will play Lincoln Land on Saturday at Danville Stadium.
