Dans win, seven former players drafted

Rawdow delivers key 2-run single

LISLE — Wednesday was a good day all-around for Danville Dans manager Pete Paciorek.

It started with the news that seven former Danville Dans were selected between the fifth and 26th rounds of the Major League Baseball draft.

And it ended with second baseman Frank Rawdow delivering a key two-run single in the seventh to lead the Dans past the DuPage Dragons 4-3.

With the win, Danville snaps a three-game losing streak and the Dans (3-3) are withing one game of the Prospect League West Division leaders.

Rawdow, who entered Wednesday’s game with a .125 batting average, picked up his first two RBIs of the year with the hit as former Schlarman standout Chris Lewellyn set him up with a sacrifice bunt to move the runners into scoring position.

“We have a lot of confidence in Frank,’’ Paciorek said. “We know that he is capable of coming up with the big hit. If we didn’t think he could do it, we wouldn’t have had Chris bunt in front of him.’’

Ironically, the two-run seventh was started by former DACC standout Donovan Drake. The right-handed pitcher led off the inning with a single, his first hit of the season.

Byron Williams, who also used to play at DACC, followed with a hit and Lewellyn, another former Jaguar, got the bunt down.

Drake got the victory with Aaron Lambrix pitching the final two innings to get his second save of the year.

Leading the charge of former Danville Dans to hear their name called on Wednesday was Louisiana State pitcher Louis Coleman with the 152nd pick by the Kansas City Royals. Up next was his Tiger teammate Ryan Schimpf with the 160th pick to the Toronto Blue Jays.

“I thought that Schimpf might have gone a little earlier, but to go in the fifth round is excellent,’’ Paciorek said. “He is a hard-nosed, tough kid that has worked extremely hard to get where he is at.’’
